Ecología en Rescate


Cuando la preocupación mundial por salvar a las especies en vías de extinción es cada vez mayor, Piriápolis nos ofrece la oportunidad de encontrarlas cara a cara y compartir con ellas un momento de sus vidas, rodeados de su entorno natural. Descubra en este recorrido que la salvación de muchos animales terrestres y marinos, aves y reptiles puede comenzar en Pan de Azúcar y Punta Colorada.
S.O.S. Rescate de Fauna Marina
Llegando a la rotonda de Punta Colorada, sobre la playa se encuentra S.O.S.
Rescate de Fauna Marina. Allí se pueden apreciar aves, lobos marinos, pingüinos y tortugas de mar, todos ellos en vías de recuperación, antes de ser
devueltos a su medio natural.
Reserva de Fauna Autóctona
En la ruta 37, justo en la base del Cerro Pan de Azúcar se ubica con más de 600 animales, la Reserva de Fauna Autóctona y Centro de Recría, donde se encuentra el rebaño de venados en condición de semi-cautividad más importante del mundo, además de numerosas aves y una colección de serpientes.
También se pueden solicitar guías para visitar las pictografías indígenas, el túnel del trencito de Piria y los talleres de las canteras de granito.
Consejo 1: el ascenso al cerro (487 metros de altura) es más que tentador,
pero es necesario comenzarlo temprano.
Consejo 2: las hamacas y los juegos también son tentadores para los más
chiquitos.
Criadero de Yacarés
Por la ruta 9, adentrándose 600 metros en el paraje Cerros Azules, se encuentra, de reciente formación, la entrada al Criadero de Yacarés y la posibilidad de hacer una visita guiada.

While the world concern about saving endangered species is growing day by day, in Piriapolis you have the opportunity to face some of these species and share a moment with them in their natural environment. You will be able to discover how the salvation of many terrestrial and marine animals, birds and reptiles starts right here in Pan de Azucar and Punta Colorada.
S.O.S. Marine Life Rescue
It is located in Punta Colorada, right on the beach, where you will see birds, sea wolves, penguins and sea turtles, all of them in a recovery stage before being sent back to their natural habitat in the sea.
Native fauna reserve
On route 37, just on the lower part of the Pan de Azucar Hill, with over 600 animals, you will find the Native Fauna Reserve and Breeding Center, along with the biggest semi-captive deer herd in the world, a great variety of birds and quite a collection of snakes.
Tour guides can be requested to visit the native pictography, Piria’s train tunnel and the workshops of the mines of granite.
Some advice: it is necessary to start climbing early in the morning if you want to get to the top of the 487 m. high hill. There is also a nice park and an attractive playground for kids.
Cayman breeding center
On route 9, entering about 600 m. at Cerros Azules, you will find the entrance to the recently opened cayman breeding center, where you will have the possibility to take a guided tour.
