Castillos y una Peculiar Iglesia

Recorriendo los castillos de la zona y una iglesia que nunca fue iglesia, se podrán conocer las leyendas y cuentos que forman parte de la historia de Piriápolis. Por la Rambla de los Argentinos hacia Playa Hermosa, a la altura de “Proa al Mar”, salimos de la ruta a la izquierda. Bordeando el mar veremos el Castillo Anagnostis, donde se filmaron escenas de la película argentina “Asesinato a distancia”. El entorno de “Proa al Mar” y la vecina Playa Verde merece una recorrida a pie; se trata de un balneario que parece detenido en la historia con sus casonas, caminitos entre frondosos árboles y playas escondidas. Cómo llegar al castillo Pitamiglio Se encuentra a escasos kilómetros de Piriápolis. Para llegar habrá que retomar la Ruta 10 hacia Montevideo y girar a la derecha en dirección a Estación Las Flores. El castillo es una extraña edificación, tan extraña como la personalidad de su original propietario, quien también erigió en Montevideo en la Rambla Gandhi, otra construcción con su mismo nombre, la cual alimenta las más variadas fantasías. El Arq. Pitamiglio fue un reconocido alquimista de comienzos del siglo XX, dejando el legado en los misterios de sus obras. Bien vale detenerse en la ruta y observar detenidamente su fachada, así como la hermosa panorámica que desde allí se aprecia. Cómo llegar al castillo de Piria Por el mismo camino y antes de pasar las vías del tren, debemos doblar a la derecha para tomar la ruta 73 o Camino Central. Recorriendo 6 kms. de caminos entre serranías, con el Cerro de las Ánimas atrás y el Pan de Azúcar a la izquierda, cruzando puentecitos, bosques y chacras que venden dulce y miel, llegamos a Ruta 37 donde doblamos a la izquierda llegando al castillo. El Castillo de Piria fue inaugurado en 1897, y desde 1979 se permite hacer una visita guiada para interiorizarse con las primeras épocas del “Balneario del Porvenir”. Se pueden observar muebles, diferentes objetos y vestimentas de época. Fue residencia del fundador, y desde allí se puede observar la zona que oficiaba como centro neurálgico de la producción agrícola y de explotación mineral. Volviendo por ruta 37 hacia el mar, encontramos la Iglesia de Piria (ubicada en lo que sería el centro de la ciudad según el diseño del empresario) la cual nunca llegó a ser consagrada como templo. Es una imponente construcción nunca terminada y con leyendas de todo tipo y tamaño, en un lugar que domina toda la zona. El recorrido total comprende 25 kilómetros. Hacerlo en horario diurno permite apreciar las bellezas y particularidades de la zona y sus construcciones. |

| How to get to Pitamiglio Castle To see this castle located a few km. from Piriapolis, you need to take the route 10 to Montevideo and turn right toward Las Flores station. The castle is a quite weird building, as weird as its original owner’s personality who also built another castle with the same name on Rambla Gandhi in Montevideo, and whose walls have also kept a wide variety of fantasies. Architect Pitamiglio was a well-known alchemist of the beginning of the XX Century, who left his legacy in the misteries that involved all his works. It is worthwhile to stop on the route and carefully observe its façade, as well as the captivating panoramic view that can be seen from there. How to get to Piria’s Castle On the same route, before the train rails, you should turn right and take route 73 or Camino Central. After 6 km. of peaceful hills, with the Animas Hill behind, the Pan de Azucar Hill on the left, and crossing the little bridges, forests and farms that sell honey and homemade preserves, we finally get to Piria’s Castle. It was inaugurated in 1897, and can be visited since 1979. Professional tour guides will make you get acquainted with the first times of the “Balneario del Porvenir” (Seaside resort of the future), as Piria used to call the town with advertising purposes. Furniture, original objects and clothing of the time complete the stage that will transport you to the origins of this unique place. The castle served as a residence to its founder and the agricultural and mineral center of the area can be fully appreciated from there. Coming back along route 37 toward the sea, we find Piria’s Church (located in what should have been the city’s downtown area, according to his design) which was never consecrated as a temple. It is a huge construction that was never finished, which keeps all kind of legends in a place that dominates all the area. The total length of the ride covers 25 km. A day-light tour is advisable to fully appreciate the beauty and characteristics of the area and its constructions. |
